iPhone fans who have recently purchased the latest iPhone; the 4S, will have noticed that the battery life holds significantly less charge than original iPhone 4.
Members of the Apple community have flocked to the Apple forums complaining about the issue, and as of yet, a fix hasn’t been found. Although a lot of suggestions haven’t worked, including disabling some location aware services and apps, allowing the battery to fully drain before recharging, and killing background apps, one little trick seems to work for some people including myself.
iOS 5 has a built-in location aware service called “Setting Time Zone”, it does exactly what it says. If you enter a different time zone the clock will adjust automatically. This works by scanning nearby mobile towers and checking the users current location, and it seems to be scanning far too often.
I have checked the logs on my iPhone 4S and found that it is checking my location everything 15 minutes.
This service can be disabled under General > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone
