Jailbreaking is a fairly simple process to go through, but many people are scared and hesitant to try it. The thought of crashes, bugs, and something going wrong discourages people from jailbreaking, but once you do have everything sorted out, the results pay off.
Today I will take you through a step by step guide of how to jailbreak your iDevice running iOS 5.0.1. This jailbreak will work for the iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, iPod Touch 3rd and 4th generations, and the 1st generation iPad. This jailbreak WILL NOT work for iOS 5 devices, so upgrade before you begin, as well as for a5 chip devices like the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.

Step 1: Download Redsnow for Mac here or Windows here and download the IPSW file for your iDevice here (Make sure everything is saved to your desktop for easier access).
Step 2: Open Redsnow from the folder and run the program. You should get this when you open it up:
Step 3: Click on “Extras” and go down to the button that says “Select IPSW”, then select the IPSW file you downloaded for your respective device.

Step 4: Go back and click the Jailbreak button. It will ask you to put your device into DFU mode. Go ahead and do that (the program will show you how if you click next). After you do that you will be brought to a screen with some options. Leave Cydia checked and then check whatever you would like to be added on.
Step 5: The jailbreak should begin and all you have to do is wait. You will see some strange things happen to your iDevice, but this is normal and is just the jailbreak doing its thing. This may take a few minutes so go have a drink and come back. The device should reboot and once your device is fully working again, you should have Cydia installed and fully jailbroken! To make sure it is working reboot your device once more just to be on the safe side.
